In today’s global push for green energy and sustainable development, traditional fuels are gradually being replaced by more efficient, eco-friendly alternatives. As a manufacturer dedicated to advanced briquetting equipment, Weiwa Machinery has long been at the forefront of this transition. Recently, we traveled to Cameroon to conduct an on-site trial run of our latest Honeycomb Briquette Machine for a local client. This event not only demonstrated the equipment’s outstanding performance but also offered a clear, practical understanding of how a Honeycomb Briquette Charcoal Machine can reshape energy production in emerging regions like Cameroon.

Why Cameroon Needs the Honeycomb Briquette Machine?

Cameroon, located in West-Central Africa, boasts abundant biomass resources — including sawdust, coconut shells, rice husks, and agricultural residues. Yet, traditional charcoal production relies heavily on deforestation, causing ecological damage and worsening air quality. In recent years, the government and international organizations have promoted renewable energy initiatives, encouraging the conversion of waste into clean solid fuel. The Honeycomb Briquette Machine is central to achieving this goal.

Compared with conventional coal lumps or loose charcoal, honeycomb briquettes offer longer burning time, higher calorific value, and less smoke. Crucially, they can be made from locally available agroforestry waste, cutting raw material costs while reducing environmental harm. Recognizing this trend, Weiwa Machinery developed a Honeycomb Briquette Charcoal Machine suited for areas with unstable power grids and lower labor costs, such as many parts of Africa. Our first field trial in Cameroon proved its viability under real conditions.

Core Science Behind Weiwa’s Honeycomb Briquette Machine – From Principle to Structure

How the Honeycomb Briquette Machine Works?

A Honeycomb Briquette Machine compresses powdered biomass (charcoal dust, sawdust, straw powder, etc.) into dense briquettes through high-pressure extrusion. Its core technology lies in punch forming: mixed raw materials enter a mold cavity, where a hydraulic piston applies strong pressure to shape the mass into a cylindrical form with multiple holes — creating the characteristic “honeycomb” pattern. A cutting mechanism then trims briquettes to uniform length.

The hollow design is intentional. The channels increase the surface area exposed to air, promoting complete combustion, preventing hot spots or flameout, and improving overall burning efficiency. Meanwhile, the lighter weight aids transport and storage — ideal for household cooking or small-scale commercial use.

Key Components – Honeycomb Briquette Mold & Punching System

High-quality output depends on precision molds and stable punch systems. Weiwa Machinery’s Honeycomb Briquette Mold is crafted from high-strength alloy steel and treated with heat processes to enhance wear resistance, ensuring durability even after prolonged use. Hole diameter and count can be customized; common configurations include 8, 12, or 16 holes, tailored to desired burn time and heat output.

The Punching System employs a dual-column hydraulic setup with pressures ranging from 150 to 300 tons. An intelligent control system adjusts punch frequency and dwell time to guarantee uniform density and consistent shape. During our Cameroon trial, engineers highlighted the system’s adaptive capability to handle fluctuations in material moisture, preventing failed forming due to environmental changes.

Raw Material Adaptability & Pretreatment Tips

Although Honeycomb Briquette Machines tolerate varied inputs, pretreatment ensures optimal results. Ideal moisture content is 8%–12%, with particle size below 5 mm. For Cameroon’s hard biomasses like coconut shell and wood chips, initial crushing via a shredder is recommended, followed by drying in a drum dryer to adjust moisture. Weiwa Machinery offers matching preprocessing equipment for an integrated “crush–dry–mix–form” production line.

Adding natural binders (starch slurry or clay) can improve briquette strength, especially during rainy seasons. In our trial, we used a mix of coconut shell powder and sawdust supplied by the client, without chemical additives, yet still produced sturdy, slow-burning samples that impressed the customer.

Inside the Cameroon Trial – Full Support from Weiwa Machinery Team

Pre-Trial Communication & Customized Solution Design

This partnership began with a Cameroonian importer focused on sustainable energy projects. After evaluating multiple suppliers, he chose Weiwa Machinery for our blend of high-performance equipment and localized service. Before shipment, our technical team held several video conferences to understand local power specs (220 V/50 Hz), feedstock characteristics, and capacity needs. We recommended the WW-HCM-120 model Honeycomb Briquette Machine, paired with a simple mixing feeder and manual cutter — balancing cost-effectiveness and ease of operation.

Installation, Commissioning & Operator Training

After arrival at Douala Port, two senior Weiwa engineers traveled to the client’s workshop. Despite language barriers and limited tools, they swiftly completed mainframe securing, hydraulic line connections, and electrical wiring. A two-day commissioning phase followed, focusing on calibrating pressure settings, testing various feedstock ratios, and training three local workers on feeding rhythm and start-stop procedures.

Safety was emphasized throughout: avoiding overload operation, regular mold cleaning, and proper shutdown protocols. This “teach-how-to-fish” approach built strong confidence for future independent operation, influencing the client’s decision to place bulk orders.

Trial Results – High Appearance & Performance Samples Win Praise

Once fine-tuned, the machine entered continuous trial mode. Under the client’s watch, we ran three tests using pure sawdust powder, coconut shell mix, and a composite with corncobs, each producing around 50 kg of briquettes. Highlights:

  • Appearance: Uniform diameter of 100 mm, adjustable length (set at 120 mm for trial), smooth surface, clearly aligned holes — reflecting mold precision and punch stability.
  • Physical Strength: Manual break test showed compressive strength over 15 N per piece; drop test from 1 m caused no cracking, meeting transport and usage standards.
  • Combustion Performance: Lighting a coconut-shell-based briquette yielded a steady flame lasting 85 minutes, with light-colored, minimal ash — indicating thorough combustion and low impurities. The client noted this far surpassed local charcoal, making it a viable import substitute.

These tangible comparisons convinced the client of the Honeycomb Briquette Charcoal Machine’s potential in Cameroon, prompting immediate interest in expanding to neighboring countries.

Application Prospects & Social Value of Honeycomb Briquette Machines

Supporting Rural Energy Transition

Over 70% of rural households in Cameroon lack reliable electricity, relying on firewood and charcoal. Introducing Honeycomb Briquette Machines allows farmers to convert straw, pruned branches, and other “waste” into valuable fuel, saving money and curbing deforestation. Designed for low energy consumption and easy maintenance, Weiwa’s machines are well-suited for areas short on skilled technicians.

Creating Jobs & Microenterprise Opportunities

A small Honeycomb Punching Machine line requires just 3–5 operators, supporting family workshops or cooperatives. During our trial, young locals expressed eagerness to join, signaling strong market demand. Weiwa is considering setting up a local service center in Cameroon to provide spare parts and remote diagnostics, further lowering operational risks.

Quantified Environmental Benefits

According to FAO estimates, each ton of honeycomb briquettes can replace about 1.2 tons of wood-derived charcoal, sparing roughly 0.8 hectares of forest. If Cameroon adopted 100,000 household units annually, CO₂ emissions could drop by millions of tons, significantly improving regional air quality. Weiwa Machinery will keep enhancing equipment efficiency to support global carbon neutrality goals.

Conclusion – Weiwa Machinery Empowering a Greener Future

Our Cameroon trial was more than a successful test — it embodied Weiwa Machinery’s mission of “technology for all, growth through sustainability.” We firmly believe the Honeycomb Briquette Machine will play a pivotal role in developing nations, and excellent products backed by responsive service are the keys to earning trust in new markets.
